As external resources to a company, we must practice good listening skills. We all know that the more one listens, the more one learns. In the case of an advisor, critical listening skills are paramount. Here’s the key: We don’t anticipate.
Assumptions Can Be Fatal

Many advisors anticipate what they are about to hear and react to that (implied) message. It may be true that senior resources have ‘been there and done that.’ However, in our experience, making assumptions about the situation can be fatal.
For example, when working with management and the Board on organization or communications issues, it may be the case that all parties bear responsibility. Sometimes conversations go sideways and never re-center. It is Pontem’s job to sort out the issues, listen to the sensitivities of all parties, and then propose solutions that are amenable to all parties.
